Puget Sound Energy

Sumas Cogeneration

As a member of an owner lead consortium headed by a limited partnership of National Energy Systems Corporation (NESCO) and Calpine Corporation, who was the Independent Power Producer, Haskell Corporation constructed a 125 MW combined cycle power plant near the Canadian border in Sumas, WA. The main plant equipment consisted of a General Electric 7FA gas turbine generator with a Vogt heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) and General Electric SC 3 steam turbine. The electrical power produced from the plant, enough to power 82,000 homes, was sold to Puget Sound Energy under a long term contract. The steam produced from the HRSG powers a second electric-generation turbine with the excess steam delivered to adjacent lumber processor, SOCCO Inc., and used to heat their dry kiln operation. The plant is now currently owned by Puget Sound Energy.
