Haskell Corporation builds 170 Megawatt - Eklutna Generation Station

Haskell was the key power block contractor chosen to erect the power plant and related equipment for Matanuska Electric Associations (MEA) Eklutna Generation Station near Anchorage, Alaska. The power island consists of 10 Wartsila 18V50DF generating sets that operate primarily on natural gas. In the event of interruption to the gas supply, the gensets can seamlessly switch to light fuel oil.

Working year round in the challenging Alaskan environment, Haskell expended more than 400,000 man hours in completing the project which presented numerous logistical and weather related obstacles that were overcome by a collaborative effort between the client and the construction team.

Haskell installed the generating sets, related structures and all the associated systems to include 20,000 cubic yards of concrete, 775 tons of rebar, 1500 tons of fabricated & erected structural steel, 30,000 lineal feet of fabricated & installed process piping, installation of medium/low voltage systems, battery backups, instrumentation and controls.

The completed plant sets a high standard for similar projects to follow in the future.
