California Generating Station
Owner: Pacific Gas and Electric
Engineer: Wärtsilä
Location: Eureka, CA
Project Details:
Haskell Corporation was selected to be the general contractor on a 163 MW electrical generating plant for Pacific Gas and Electric in California. The new power plant consists of ten large reciprocating engine/generator sets with high-efficiency scrubbers. The engines are capable of running on either light fuel oil (LFO) or natural gas. The project involved significant site and civil work including over 1,000 pre-cast concrete piles, approximately 9,000 CY of cast-in place concrete, and substantial earthmoving. In addition, the mechanical work involves the fabrication and installation of over 20,000 LF of process piping, two large field erected tanks, the setting of the ten engine/generator sets, and a substantial amount of ancillary equipment. All this was performed on an existing operating power-plant and nuclear site under a very small foot-print. The project also involved close coordination with the utility and multiple State of California agencies.
